Goal

A calm, warm game with no ads, no tracking and no internet needed

The challenge.

Agatha & the Unicorns was built for an audience that mobile game conventions are not written for: kids, and gentle hearts of every age, who need no fail screen at all to stay interested. A 4+ rating already sets a hard floor on what the app may contain, and the brief went well past that floor. No ads, no tracking, no account, no internet. That removes, in one stroke, every retention mechanic a casual game normally leans on. The design problem was therefore to make the loop rewarding on its own terms, with a control that fits in a single gesture, a deliberately forgiving first chapter, and progression that lives on the device rather than in a profile hosted somewhere.

THE SOLUTION

Gentle by design.

We built the whole experience around a single gesture and a device that is offline. Nothing in the app depends on the internet, so every design decision had to earn its place inside the download itself.

  • Drag-anywhere flight Princess Agatha follows the finger anywhere on the screen, up, down, left, right and through the clouds. Movement lives entirely in that one drag, with no virtual stick to learn.
  • Six friends, six chapters Bubble, Twinkle, Rainbow, Puff, Spark and Luna each carry their own personality and point value, across six story chapters plus an Endless Dream mode. Luna, the rarest, only visits once the stars come out.
  • A forgiving curve Five hearts, a first chapter with no scary game overs, and six power-ups (Big Bucket, Rainbow Rain, Slow Time, Star Shower, Magnet, Extra Hearts) keep the pressure low while still giving older players something to chase.
  • Private and offline No ads, no tracking, no account and no internet needed. Sparkles and the best score stay on the device, where they also unlock the later chapters.

The result.

Agatha & the Unicorns reached the App Store on 26 May 2026 as version 1.0, a $3.99 paid title rated 4+ and universal across iPhone and iPad. It is the kind of project where the constraints are the product: there is no ad to serve, no data to send home, no session to open, and nothing that stops working on a plane. We designed and built it in Montréal, from art direction through to submission.
